The Bite, one of a series of Space for Peace drawings made by Paolo Soleri in 1987. An asteroid is mined into a sharp geometry to facilitate the construction of an Eco-Minutia settlement for 3,000 people, of which half are residents and half are space explorers or travelers. The asteroid diameter is about 2 miles. The bubble membranes of the settlement may be seen radiating away from portions of the asteroid. The entire assembly may be spun to create artificial gravity for the human occupants.
